Budget 2008 Reactions

The waiver of loan to farmers to the tune of Rs 60,000 crores carries no meaning as far as their future is concerned. This will no doubt give farmers a temporary mental relief but the harsh conditions in which they are living will not change. It is said that under this scheme seven crore farmer families will be benefited , assuming four members per family the total number comes to 28 crores or we can say 20% 0f our total population is struggling to keep themselves alive under harsh and inhuman conditions. Considering this I fail to understand the slogan of our main political parties “India Shining” and “Incredible India”. I am not opposed to the idea of loan waiver but I would request respected FM to please put down some time bound programs for the development of infrastructure required for better farming which in turn will increase income of these farmers so that they can live comfortably and respectably, otherwise, our dreams to make India a developed state will remain a distant dream. As per para 56 of the budget speech of FM Rs 2,80,000 crores proposed to be target for the Agriculture credit for the year 2008-09, will this credit produce any result without adequate facilities of irrigation, better seeds, provision for timely fertilizers, timely payment of reasonable price of produce, a better improved and friendly marketing facilities etc. will remain a big question in the minds of a common man. We in cities cannot imagine development without the development of remotest villages of our country.
